There once lived a moneylender. He had an awful lot of money, but day and night he dreamed of owning a large and heavy bar of gold. Whatever he did, he saw the glittering gold before his eyes.
One day, passing by the largest jewellery store, the moneylender saw a large ingot of gold through the window. As he entered and approached the gold, he starred at it, his head was spinning, his eyes were gleaming, he was as if enchanted.
Suddenly he took the ingot of gold, put it in his bosom, and walked slowly to the exit of the store!
Of course, his theft did not go unnoticed, and just as he was leaving the store, they caught him, took his gold and asked him:
- Are you blind? Didn't you see that the store was full of people? How did it even occur to you that it was possible to steal this piece of gold unnoticed?
The moneylender looked around in astonishment and, as if coming out of a dream, said:
- No, I didn't see anyone. I saw the gold, only the gold…
- He really is a madman - said the owner of the store - How is it possible not to see the people standing next to him?
- Don't be surprised - said an old man passing by - For those blinded by gold, people cease to exist.
